Matt Friend is a Consulting Actuary with Perr&Knight specializing in reserving across various commercial lines with additional experience in personal auto insurance.  His expertise spans General Liability, Umbrella, Worker’s Compensation, Property, Binding Authority, Professional Liability, Management Liability, Surety, Trade Credit, Political Risk and all auto-related coverages for insurance companies, self-insured entities and captives. Matt has advanced reserving experience such as utilizing stochastic models to determine confidence intervals around reserve estimates and applying loss distributions to determine expected losses in excess layers.  He also has pricing experience including developing rate indications and loss cost forecasts.

Prior to joining Perr&Knight Matt held actuarial roles at Bristol West Insurance Group (a subsidiary of Farmers insurance), AIG , RSUI (a Berkshire Hathaway-owned excess and surplus lines commercial carrier), and most recently at McGriff Insurance Services.

Matt earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with minors in Statistics and Actuarial Science from the University of Florida in 2015.  He became a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2024 and is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
